They went through the meadows, leaving the twinkling lights of the town far behind. The guards were not able to see them anymore in the cold dark night and would not send a search party until daylight for sure. Several had been killed by arrow, but they could not return to retrieve the bodies, for it was too dangerous.
After a few miles they arrived at the edge of the forest, where the first trees welcomed them swaying in the breeze. There was something eerie about that place. Fortunately, there were some who knew the forest well enough to guide them and find a place to settle in for the night. It was then decided that they should continue south and up the mountain slope until reaching some old ruins nearby.
2. Wrath
These ruins were the remainings of an abandoned village where their ancestors had lived ages ago. It was now marred by the passing of time and covered in mold, but it would serve them as a refuge for the time being.
No tears had been shed during the journey, for their minds had been too focused on surviving the escape. Yet once they had settled in the ruined village, they wept; they felt helpless, desperate and enraged, filled with woe and impotence. Why such ill fortune had fallen upon them, they ignored.
3. To Those Who Perished
Just outside the village, in the forest, there was a beautiful glade, an old ceremonial place it seemed. A woman who had walked away from the crowd went into the glade and sat on the floor amongst the flowers. She was carrying a lute, and there she played the most mournful melody ever heard, in memory of those unfortunate ones who had fell into eternal sleep that night.
